Merchants Technology — Real-Time Knowledge to Manage Your Move
Merchants employs state-of-the art technology to monitor your move, and track your crew to ensure a safe and responsible operation at all times.
Merchants employs enterprise technologies such as CRM software to ride herd on every detail of your move. Our employees follow automated task checklists for each project, signing off on each task in real time, so we can monitor the progress of each move, no matter how distant from our Racine headquarters.
Even out on the vast open highway, the truck with your possessions is under our watchful eye. The location of every vehicle is monitored via GPS, so we know where every vehicle is located in real time. For customers who choose our VIP 5-Star option, we share a GPS link so you can keep your own eye on the progress of your move.
Every one of our trucks is equipped with technology similar to an airliner’s “black box.” This allows us to download a record of how our people conduct themselves on the road, ensuring safe driving within the legal speed limit.
As we maintain our own vehicles, our fleet is being systematically upgraded to Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) technology. And After Treatment System using Diesel Exhaust Fluid (DEF), usually automotive-grade urea, converts NOx (nitrogen oxide) emissions into pure nitrogen and water vapor, two natural elements in the air we breathe.
Thanks to SCR technology, engine emissions levels are substantially reduced.
- NOx emissions by up to 90%
- Hydrocarbons (HC) and carbon monoxide (CO) emissions by 50-90%
- Particulate matter (PM) emissions by 30-50%
Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) is the first and only technology in decades to be as good for the environment as it is good for business and vehicle performance.
Merchants feels so strongly about protecting the environment, we have committed to investing $8,000 per vehicle for transmission technology that will result in a 21% gain in fuel efficiency over the average Class 8 vehicle. Over three-quarters of our fleet conform to the California CARB standards. And we’re proud to have been recycling our used motor oil since the 1990s.
