How We Do It

The Merchants Moving Process

It starts with a free in-home visit to help plan your move.

During your in-home visit, we’ll determine the total size and weight of your shipment and any special packing requirements — measuring for crates, if necessary, and determining which, if any, items require disassembly prior to shipping. We’ll answer all your questions and provide you a written estimate based on your personal needs.

Mainly, we listen.

For instance, do you have sentimental items that require special attention? Would you prefer a customized move where you pack some or all of your belongings yourself? If so, we can provide tips for packing on your own.

We also want you to understand your rights and responsibilities prior to, during and after your move — and we’ll take the time to explain in detail.

Merchants does not use spread dates

We schedule you for specific dates for packing/loading and delivery/unloading.

Single Point of Contact

You’ll be assigned a professional move coordinator, who will walk you through the process from beginning to end.

Your movers will arrive on time and in uniform

The afternoon before your scheduled pickup or delivery date, the Keyman in charge of your move will call you to confirm their time of arrival.

On the day of your move, your Keyman will conduct a walk-through and address any specific concerns you may have. And we prepare your home for the day’s work.

  • Stairs, entryways and high-traffic areas — hard surfaces as well as carpeted areas — will be covered with mats to avoid damage and prevent tracking in dirt.
  • Banisters and wall corners are padded to prevent nicks and scrapes.
  • Whenever possible, the same team who packs and loads your belongings at pick-up will also deliver and unload at your destination.

We carefully choose appropriate cartons and packing materials to provide adequate, cost-effective protection for your goods.

And packing is done room to room so that setup at your final destination is efficient and organized.

Storage

Goods headed to storage are sealed in sturdy wooden containers. This keeps your valued possessions clean and minimizes handling.

Items not suitable for container storage, such as upholstered furniture, are carefully covered in protective wrap and stored on special racks.
